FPS hard capped at 60 on foreground only
Hi,
First of all, a little disclaimer. This is not related to general performance issues. I have a high end setup (r9 5900x, 3080 and such), and my game usually runs smoothly with a 144hz monitor. The issue For some reason, poe is now hard capped at 60 fps on foreground only. When I alt-tab out of the game, my fps count goes up to normal. This already happened in the past, but restarting the game or switching to fullscreen and back solved the issue. But today, I can't get rid of it. I have vsync disabled, no fap cap. Dual screen setup with a second monitor running 60hz if that can help. Thanks Last bumped on Dec 16, 2024, 2:03:26 PM

" Well since you have a second monitor running 60 fps, it sounds like the game is confused. Try this --> 1. Keep vSync disabled. 2. Set foreground FPS cap at 144 (it has to be set to 144 in windows also). 3. Set background FPS cap to 30. Save and close the game. Now start the game client again and see if that helps. |

I have exactly the same problem with a similar powerful setup.
Havent found a solution yet. |

The game is only going to do "game things" when it has focus-when it does not, Windows Desktop Manager will do what you tell it to.
Find a way using your WDM editor of choice to assign your desktop to the refresh rate you so desire. |

Just got a brand new beefy PC and noticed I was having this issue as well.
200+FPS while typing this message with POE inactive on my other monitor but as soon as ALT-TAB back to POE it hard caps me at 60FPS. AMD 5900 GTX3080 32GB Ram 3440x1440 Resolution VULCAN & DirectX tested Vsync Disabled NVidia Drivers enabled G-Sync on Windowed Full Screen. Tried setting a Foreground / Background FPS cap. Foreground FPS caps will properly apply if I enable them up to the 60 FPS limit Found a solution literally right after posting this... TLDR I'm a dumbass. Monitor resolution in NVidia control panel was auto detected at 60FPS. POE was properly interrupting GSYNC settings while maximized and letting it run free while uncapped. Nvidia Control Panel -> Display -> Change Resolution -> Refresh rate. Last edited by Sneaksters#5357 on Mar 10, 2021, 10:12:19 PM

I had the exact same problem. Also with a GTX 3080. Tried Sneaksters solution but it was already correctly set to 144Hz. Although under 'Set up G-SYNC' I unchecked the box under 3. Display Specific settings - 'Enable settings for the selected display model' and it seemed to fix the issue for me. Only one of my monitors is g-sync compatible so I'm guessing that's part of the problem for me anyway.

If anyone is still having issues, try turning off vsync, with foreground FPS cap disabled, if nothing else works
Hertz and framerate are not the exact same thing. But you want them as close to each other as possible. So if your monitor only allows for 60 htz, but your GPU allows for 140+ fps, it won't be as smooth as it can be. Hope that helps |
