Lacking Dps

I was watching this video about summon skeletons and wondering why my damage is so low compared to it. Do I need awakened gems? His early game build is already hitting 300k. And with 10ex invested into gear I can only pull 30k per skel. What did I do wrong?

1. Your tree is a mess, follow the budget passive tree how it tells you.

2. Fix your gems, they are a mess. (follow the build guide)

The budget passive tree covers life and resistances which, I don't think scales with damage. (his is life and I go for es) And I use the large cluster jewels which should add of the majority of the dps, renewal, rotten claws and call to slaughter.

Can you please elaborate on the gems (links), I know I don't have awakened gems but they only gem I see that is different is impale. I'm wondering if this is the one key that is really able to boost my dps.
