[PS4] Hall of Grand Masters map unkillable masters

Hello GGG,

3.12 has some insane masters that are unkillable, and it is not even chance to get them. Me and my friend had run 13 maps now with different builds, using RF with balfire scepter with scorching ray lev 25 and some other builds and this map is impossible to do. We even got guys that said had builds to run HoGM (as they did before) and they run additional of 5 maps and they couldn't do it.

I actually found only one guy that claims he did the maps in 3.12 with Fire BV and I believe him as he has insane gear including Headhunter but even he didn't want to try and do it for us as he said it is not guaranteed and he died many times when he tried to do it for himself.

This blocks achieving Full Atlas trophy, why making this map so insanely hard. We have builds (me and my friend TR and Carrion Golems) that handle all other content fine but this map is impossible. Please fix this or at least remove this map from Atlas achievement...

I've seen the Balefire recommendation for HoGM before... but I'm pretty sure that hasn't been "up to date" tech for a year or maybe more.

Every league, the masters in HoGM change.

There are something like 300 different masters, total.

AFAIK, no new ones have been added in a long time.

There are two known ways to make HoGM easier:

1) Use Block Chance Reduction Support for hit-based builds

2) Use non-Chaos DoT builds

While Balefire Scepter would appear to be a non-Chaos DoT build... unless you have actually built a Fire DoT build, it's not. You'll be doing 1/5 or less of the damage you would on a "real" Fire DoT build.

Also, it *way* safer to do HoGM with Totems or a truly ranged skill. Channeling and standing still in one spot is a really good way to die, in any content.

Personally, if you really want to beat HoGM, I recommend a Frost Breath or Vortex character.

These builds leave Degens on the ground that will bypass all block chance, are not stopped by CI, and you can skedaddle away to safety while it continues to deal damage. Plus the chill from using Cold Snap (which both builds do) is quite handy.

If you really want to do Fire-based DoT, then have a character that is actually built around that, and use Flame Wall (likely along with other stuff).

the issue is I have RF build as I was thinking about HoGM when I started my Let's Platinum adventure as I though this + Balfire will clearly destroy the dudes there (Bare in mind I did HoGM on PC using Bane Ocultist and Balfire before).

Problem is that my RF with Balfire lev 25 scorch ray together can't do anything to some masters (My chars are public so you can have a look), their ES does not even move... and in 16 tries now we always had 2-3 unkillable masters.

If you know build that is not that expensive to make and will have easy time with HoGM link me to it or provide pastebin if you can. At the moment I was told that Ball Lightning miner with Tremor Rod should have easy time there so I am trying to level that.

[PS] I have checked this Vortex build - https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/2661120
and it says there clearly that this can't clear HoGM

So, I see you have a TR character who has the Balefire scepter. The problem with that is that you're going to have lots of nodes on the tree, and gear, that don't improve the Balefire. It's like playing a level 50 or so build.

In order for Balefire to actually be good, you have to have lots of nodes on the tree that help it, and some gear that helps it. The days when just slapping a Balefire scepter on any old character and using that to do HoGM are *long* past.

I see that your "RF" character is actually a golemancer. Minions get nerfed into the dirt in HoGM. They will die constantly, and are unlikely to get in any real damage before they do.

I've never actually tried Golems in HoGM, so if I'm wrong about that, forgive me. I know Zombies and Spectres are a bad idea for HoGM. And never, ever, bring an Animate Guardian into HoGM unless you don't care about the gear on it at all.

How long ago was that?

I don't know of any build that actually has an *easy* time with HoGM. The build I personally have had the best time with Cold DoT Occultist. Cold DoT Trickster would probably work fine too, but I used Occultist.

If you're going to do BL Mines, you'll have to use Block Chance Reduction support.

I've never actually done HoGM with a Hit based build, so I don't know how much Block Chance Reduction Support actually helps. Reading the way the gem works, it sounds like skills that hit frequently would work best with it, so Ball Lightning is a good choice in that regard.

OTOH, if they are recovering tons of ES per block, your BL may actually heal them unless it has *very* high damage.

Do note that this may be part of the problem you were encountering. The recommendation to use DoT is in part to not trigger their "on block" effects. If you have minions or other skills that are hitting while your DoT is active, those skill will trigger the "on block" effects.
Don't look at TR I was just trying something that other guy did when he exchanged TR for Bane and used balfire for other masters.

I used RF build most to be honest. I was thinking about that hit on block and I disabled all my golems (they are there for the buffs only not to do damage). and CWDT I disabled too so no wave or anything and still my RF + scorch ray from balfire were not doing damage to some masters
People has claimed the Balefire has been fixed. It has PVP scaling now.

I imported your character into PoB.

Your RF has about 600k damage against white mobs. Take away the exposure from WoC and it's 500k. Take away EO (because you can't crit without hitting) and it's 370k. Factor in boss-level resists and it's 166k.

Except Grandmasters can have resists of 80+.

You're doing about 50k DPS or less to Grandmasters with RF. They may literally out-regen it. And this assumes you're still keeping up 5 Charges of Inspiration, which means Shield-Charging at least once very 2 seconds, on average.

That's with your current Scepter. The Balefire will reduce your RF DPS even more.

But it gives a level 25 Scorching Ray, right?

Well, if we socket in the three best supports: Awakened Burning Damage, Awakened Elemental Focus, and Awakened Controlled Destruction (all level 5), then it does 270k DPS (against a boss) at 8 stages. Are you able to stand still long enough to get to 8 stages? At 4 stages it's only 100k DPS. Less than your RF. And that's with 3 level 5 Awakened supports.

The Balefire thing might as well be a meme at this point. A few years ago, it worked. That's not the case anymore. You're better off with a weapon that boost the damage of your RF more.

And even then, since your build is based around all of these things that hit but don't really deal damage, this build just isn't good for HoGM.

Really, make a Cold DoT build, or a Fire DoT build that isn't based around hits. (i.e. a Chieftain rather than Elementalist).

Even with one of those builds, it will still be hard. My first HoGM completion took all the portals. I literally used all 6, and I was a level 93 (ish) Occultist with over 8k ES and lots of layered defenses.

My second one went better. But I still died multiple times.

HoGM is really hard. There is no build that trivializes it. And there's definitely no "one weird trick" (unless you count paying someone to do it for you).
I did it w/ siege ballista hiero and reduced block chance.
