Would you Strap a Pair of Sub woofers to the Side of your Head?
Because I have. These are the Nuraphones. I just got them and they are ridiculous! I mean... I've had Senheisser HDs and Hi-Fi Mans before but these are just crazy. The sound isn't quite as meticulously detailed as an open back or a planar magnetic driver but the upside is that they have active noise canceling, passive noise canceling and they are wireless bluetooth. And I have to say the noise canceling does pretty well.
But other than that the sound quality is really nice. But the bass though... I mean... hahaha. What can I say. You wouldn't even beleive me if I told you. Okay but let me say it like this... these things are basically subwoofers that you strap to the side of your head but they also have ear buds inside of the subwoofer. That's what they basically are. I mean... the dam cups on the headphnes are fucking shaking like worse than a dual shock controller. These things are wobbling just like there is an earthquake happening. My point is it creates the illusion that you are real REAL bass being played in the room with you. Not just a reasonable facsimile. I wouldn't call them studio monitors even though I'm using them for that too. But these bitches are super fun. They aren't perfect. But they are super super fun and I would recommend it if you could find them on sale and you are looking for some headphones this holiday season. The normal price is $400... I wouldn't pay that. I found mine for $180. So if you can get that price I would recommend these! So crazy to watch movies and play games with them on too. Last bumped on Nov 19, 2020, 8:25:10 PM

Those look rather ... invasive. What's that, an obturating ear canal insert in the centre of the earpiece? *shudders*
I guess that would really cancel ambient noise. I have a pair of steelseries something-or-others from about 2 years ago I paid CAN 40 for and they're plenty good for what I need. They've taken a few spills and been run over by chair wheels a couple times and still as crisp and resonant as the first day. Just think of those things as ear buds. And then the rest of the ear cup is just a subwoofer basically. That's pretty much how it works.
These sound more like you have a car audio system around your head than headphones. This is the ebay item number where I got mine: 303713632718 $150 instead of $300-$400 like most places.
I've got tinnitus.
I have tinnitus for several reasons, one of which is repeated use of headphones when I was younger. Then, I just piled up other possible causes until I was satisfied that my tinnitus was loud enough... With very proper and sincere respect, I have to say that using headphones like these as well as earbuds and other devices that create artificial conditions that our ears are not designed to deal with is a very unsmart thing to do. I know it sounds alarmist and preachy, but I am sitting here right now with a very loud whining in my ears that will never, ever, go away. It can't be "thumped" away and it can't be drugged away. I will have it with me until I die, barring some miracle of medical breakthroughs... I don't want that life for anyone, so I had to blather about "headphone stranger-danger." Sorry, but I'd rather get reamed out by outraged posters than have one more person suffer what I have to suffer through. And, if some anonymous person comes across this testimony and changes their behavior, saving them from a lifetime of tinnitus? My pride is a small price to pay. :)
" This, take care of your ears, hearing loss is only one of many ways your ears can get even on you for being careless. Sadly most of us won't know we have a genetic or hereditary predisposition toward more severe middle ear damage from high noise exposure, until it starts happening. Headphones operating at a local volume of 110+ DB can do more damage than standing in a club or concert where the noise is at 110+ DB because there's no directionality to it, it's being emitted from all points along the ear directly into your ear canal and even being conducted into your skull via the hardware. Unsurprisingly this bony conduction can go past your middle ear into your inner ear vestibular apparatus, and lead to vertigo and balance problems. Mechanotransductive Ménière's. As well as tinnitus, which can both drive ya nuts AND interfere with normal hearing so that you fail to hear certain sounds that you should be hearing. Of course, this may take 10-20 years to become apparent...or you could be unlucky and start having tones drop out of your auditory range within months. " Hm thanks for the input. I really don't use headphones all that much. But based on what you said I'll try to limit how much I use them. I do think I have access to some pretty nice speakers somewheres. But I got these specifically because of their noise cancelation qualities. The bass was a bonus.
I've had a bit longer with the Nuraphones and I have to say that they are better than I initially thought. The ear bud portion comes with 3 different size nub thingies. And the default was large which was too large for me. I switched them to medium and wow the difference is amazing - the accuracy and clarity has improved quite a bit. So much more comfortable and better sounding too.
These things take a little bit of experience in order to get more out of them. So yeah recommended. Weird but surprisingly good. Though you may have to calibrate them several times in order to the find the right sound.
Crazy looking but looks really effective. I live near a college and a stadium and typically, non Covid times, it can get quite loud. I'd really consider something like this just for peace and quiet, if they really do cancel noise as well as they look like they should.
My younger party years already got me tinnitus, woohoo. They are working on cure's but there isn't anything tangible yet. Just hopes that in the future they may have figured it out. I've got my fingers crossed, but I'm not holding my breath for it. A New CURE For Tinnitus? | OTO-313 - 6 months old |
