"Energy from within" on the top builds?

Using this tree, I don't get how "Energy from within" is doing anything other than the %increased global ES. They're not taking any life nodes to convert... What am I missing?

Melding is 10% es 6% life = becomes 16% es instead
same with preceding nodes on the wheel that are half the melding value |
