welcome to our new ppl from russia in our community. Chernobyl sucked, right?.... Yeah I'm sorry I'm watching the serie on HBO, so how it was going on real life. tell me what was the real deal.

I would love a series acutally written and directed by people from that region and of course local actors....

Wasn't technically Ukraine a part of the Soviet Union when it happened? So in a way, it would be wrong to say it happened in either Russia or Ukraine, but The Soviet Union.

I'm not an expert, but either way, I thought the series was interesting. I will watch Russia's version just to see their version of what happened as well, if it is ever made that is.

After watching the show, Chernobyl read the accident history. There are many inaccuracies in the series, but everything is described in sufficient detail.

The real deal according to Russia?

Isn't it obvious? Russia will do what Russia always does, either pretend it never happened, or blame the Americans, of course!

I worked in an endocrinology clinic for a few years. As of 2015 we were still seeing a cohort of patients who had lived in the surrounding area, or downwind of it, as late as the last 5 years.

Not only more cancers of the thyroid, but also more thyroid conditions total, especially in those who were living there at the time of the accident.

It was something you had to pay special attention to, even in a patient who was a granddaughter of a former resident of the area, never set foot in Ukraine, etc. because of possible germ-line mutations, or some item in the house bearing an exposure risk: everything from wooden items milled from trees growing along the Dnieper, to holy water from St. Volodymyr, etc.

Truly mind boggling, the far-reaching effects of this catastrophe.

I just couldn't get into it. I prefer watching real documentaries on YouTube.
