Advice for a guardian build

I originally posted this in the gameplay section, but no one replied, so I am going to give it another go here.

I am running a smite guardian with a secondary focus on minions. I currently have summon phantasm on kill linked to my smite gem, summon skeletons on a spell totem, holy relic, and a flame golem. The phantasms and skeletons are doing quite well holding their own, but there has got to be an easier method of summoning the phantasms. I know the Soulwrest staff gives a freebie summon phantasm support, but as I play self-found, I likely will not get one. What are some other reliable ways to get phantasms up and running? And what supports work well with them?
