Do they make an ice maker with soft ice?
I just want an ice maker that makes "sonic" ice
If you ever had a cherry lime soda from sonic it's not like rock hard like refrigerator ice but chewable. I need this ice for all drinks. Stand alone is fine since we have a refrigerator that makes the BS hard ice. I'll give that to guests. Git R Dun! So far as I know, they just make industrial ones. You could try a restaurant supplier and see if there is a smaller model.

" Can't say I've tried their soft ice. I've had small crunchy ice at other places, and trying to make it with trays is a pain. It seems like Scotsman is the name of the company that pioneered or at least makes the machines for Sonic. "Nugget ice begins in a completely different way than its cubic cousins, though the process starts with producing flake ice. In the typical Sonic ice machine, water is run through a metal cylinder that is cooled by the refrigeration system. It’s so cold that the water begins to freeze in small sheets that protrude from the side of the cylinder. At the same time this is happening, an auger turns, scraping the interior walls of the cylinder. As it does that, it removes the forming ice spikes and pushes them to the top of the auger. If this was the end of the process, we would call the resulting product flake ice, a type commonly seen in fresh seafood and produce displays. But a residential nugget ice maker takes it further, pushing the ice flakes through a small tube that compacts them into a single piece. At the end of the tube is an extruder tip, where the ice is either allowed to break off naturally into smaller pieces or is lopped by a blade into somewhat uniform bits." https://www.katom.com/cat/kitchen-appliances/learn-how-a-home-ice-machine-produces-sonic-ice-chewable-nuggets.html A home version of the Scotsman brand runs around $3,000 to $4,000 US. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaAeRlvsJG8 You'd have to bet going through a lot of ice to keep it from going stale I'd think. I did see a smaller "nugget" ice maker, that's not too expensive (at least by comparison) at $500 - FirstBuild Opal 24 lb. Freestanding Nugget Ice Maker in Stainless Steel - You can order online, if maybe pick up at a retailer like Home Depot. Hope that helps!
