Question on Elementalist's shock effectiveness on totem

Both Witch's and Scion's Elementalist Ascendancy about shock states "Shocks from YOUR Hits always increase Damage taken by at least 20%/10%", just like the wording on Herald of Thunder and Shimmeron before nerf, which implies it doesn't apply when totem hits.

I haven't found any direct answer to this specific subject under all the confusions around totem. Can anyone confirm it's not beneficial so I'll refund and go Occ/Ass
