Chin Sol Abyss - Tier 1 Clear Tier 1 Single Target
Quick introduction - I am a longtime lurker on PoE...my only real contribution being the Dyadus Animate Guardian trick for burning specters.
I like making different builds and maxing them out- I’d say with around 50% success rate (poor, pooor storm burst inquisitor looking at you). This brings us to this build. It has tremendous clear, keeping pace with KB wanders but does significantly more single target damage. Its damage can go up to 4-5 million dps, equaling doomfletch but without using abyssus (though with the new shaped amulets with chaos conversion, they may be close). It also has high defenses for an archer, with a good amount on the tree, slayer leech, high movement speed with devoto's+perma-onslaught, and high evasion/dodge/blind. The idea is you use the elemental abyss jewels, and stack their damage with the biggest multiplier in the game...chin sol+point blank. Yep for 1 alch you can have a weapon carry you throughout the game. SUMMARY Pros: -Really, really fun to play. Fast, strong, durable -Massive clear speed. Mirage archer is great too -Insane single target. Even buffed boss health gets shredded -Good defenses, great for an archer. Can have 6.5K hp with Kaoms, slayer leech, high ms and dodge/evade/blind. -Easy leveling! Stormcloud + abyss jewels can carry you to 62 for chin sol -Scales well. Starts cheap but you can always upgrade another abyss jewel or item Cons: -Can’t do ele reflect maps -Can get expensive. Premium jewels are quite pricey. In a sick way this is kind of nice though in that there is always another upgrade available. -Will be gone at the end of abyss league :( Videos (will update over time): Tier 10 Abyss http://plays.tv/video/5a4db0315164850811/lich-tier-10 http://plays.tv/video/5a4db0fe78dba6b53b/lich-tier-10-pt-2 http://plays.tv/video/5a4db14670dc4ac0c9/lich-tier-10-pt-3 Tier 11 Primordial Pool http://plays.tv/video/5a4db1a6a5af3106f9/tier-11-primordial-pool http://plays.tv/video/5a4db1fa48649a5603/primordial-pool-pt-2 BUILD Ascendancy: Quite a few options. My choice was for ascendant, for slayer leech (really, really important for attack builds) and easy frenzy charges/onslaught movement. Also with the pure talent jewel this allows you to focus stats on your gear for offense. However as ascendant, the assassin one gives more damage (~15%) and intelligence for wrath, while pathfinder gives a way to get back charges easily Slayer will obviously also give leech, as well as 20% cull, sometimes 20% more damage and stun Tree Path of Building with elite gear (4.8M dps, roughly 50 exalts worth): https://pastebin.com/TEFb5D8G Lvl 12: https://www.pathofexile.com/fullscreen-passive-skill-tree/3.1.1/AAAABAAAAQOWOyhLV1-wYENuPW-egwmExZu1voDA48pK8bM= Lvl ~30: https://www.pathofexile.com/fullscreen-passive-skill-tree/3.1.1/AAAABAAAAQOWDkgPqxa_G8gkiyaVKgs2PTsoS1dVS13yX7BgQ2HiYqxsjG49b55wUoMJhMWJ04w2m7Wdqr6AwOPDOspKz93jhPGK8bM= Lvl ~50: https://www.pathofexile.com/fullscreen-passive-skill-tree/3.1.1/AAAABAAAAQOWBbUNjQ5ID6sRgRa_G8gj0yP2JIsmlSoLMHw2PTfUOyhKfUtXTZJOKlFHVUtW-luvXfJfsGBDYeJh62KsY6dnoGyMbj1vJ2-ecFJ313j5elN-3X8rgwmExYd2idOMNo19jbmNv5pqmyabtZ2qtMW-gMDjwuzDOsjcykrPes_d3UbjhOOf6NbtP_GK8bP9bg== lvl ~80 with ascendant duelist starting point: https://www.pathofexile.com/fullscreen-passive-skill-tree/3.1.1/AAAABAABAQJfA5YFLQW1Bx4OSA_EEYERlhR1Fr8Z1xvIHYMhdiHQIiYj0yP2JP0mlSoLLlMwWzB8MfoyATQgNj031DnUOyg7fEMxRCVHfklRTP9Nkk4qUUdVS1b6W69d8l85YN5h4mHrYqxjp2VNbIxuPW8ncFJ07XXLdvd313j5elN673tuft1_K3_GhQ6GzonTivCMNo19jX6NuY2_j2CVLpchmmqbJpstnaqgn6KjpAykwqi7rJetM7Crshm0xbe2uMq9Nr6AvqfBM8F8wuzEgs96z93Tb9Qj2sHdRuOE51To1upi7T_w1fGK9339bv_e lvl ~90 https://www.pathofexile.com/fullscreen-passive-skill-tree/3.1.1/AAAABAABAQJfA5YFLQW1Bx4OSA_EEYERlhR1Fr8Z1xqNG8gdgyF2IdAiJiPTI_Yk_SaVKgsuUzBbMHwx-jIBNCA2PTfUOdQ7KDt8Ps9DMUQlR35JUUz_TZJOKlFHVUtVhVb6WhpbJluvXfJfOWDeYeJh62KsY6dlTWyMbj1vJ3BSdO11y3b3d9d4-XpTeu97bn7dfyt_xn_7hQ6GzonTivCMNo19jX6NuY2_j2CVLpchmmqbJpstnaqgn6KjpAykwqXLqLusl60zsKuyGbTFt7a4yr02vea-gL6nwTPBfMLswzPEgs96z93Tb9Qj2sHdRuOE51To1upi7T_w1fGK9339bv_e EQUIPMENT Weapon - Chin Sol. The purpose of the build...it has pretty good attack speed and a ridiculously huge 100% MORE multiplier for all damage. With point blank in the tree that’s +200% damage! (200% * 150% = 300% or 200% more) Only drawback is when it says close range it literally means melee, but with its fast attack speed it is still fine at range Generally speaking, your gear is a balance between abyss jewel slots, life, resistance, accuracy (don't forget it!), crit multi and EDA/WED, in that order. Quiver - only thing you need is +1 arrow and accuracy. You can use the quiver to balance out your life and resistances, or offensive for crit multi and elemental damage to attacks Headpiece - Devotos, rats nest, starkonja, lightpoacher, rare helmet with accuracy/life/res. Devotos is probably best since it gives the most ms for positioning and clear speed. Rats nest has the most damage, and the crit is helpful. Starkonja has life and crit but no ms. Lightpoacher is super fun but the fun part is more or less useless since lightning arrow clears before the spirit burst hits...but it gives jewel slots and res. Also if you’re starving for accuracy you can use a rare helm but wouldn’t recommend. Enchant: Barrage or TS Chest - Kaoms, belly, perfect form, qotf, rare chest. Kaoms lets you easily hit 7k health, though you lose your second 6 link which sucks. Rare shaped chest with 1.5% crit gives massive damage, but good luck finding one with health and resists.....belly is a nice balance of defense and links. Qotf lets you run like a maniac. Perfect form is another balance that has a ton of evasion, resists, spell dodge, but resists are already tight with this build. However it is much easier to socket. Gloves - Tombfist. 10% more damage plus 2 jewel sockets with attack speed and life?? Amazing. Boots - bubonic trail, rare boots, atziris step. Bubonic trail gives up to two more sockets for more dmg, BIS. Rare boots help with res. Atziris gives tons of evasion and spell dodge. Honorable mention for dark ray vectors for frenzy fun Amulet - life, res, accuracy, wed, crit multi, elemental damage in that order. Non crit as chaos is amazing too if you’re lucky or rich! Rings - life, res, accuracy, wed. Primary source of res here since rings are limited for offensive mods. Opals are ideal Belt - darkness enthroned, crazy Stygian belt. For most darkness enthroned essentially gives 3 jewel’s worth of damage and life...but I suppose a Stygian let with less flask charges used, wed, life, res could be used Flasks - in order, instant life flask, stibnite, diamond, wise oak, rising sun/quicksilver/atziris promise. Instant flask is to help with burst that gets through your defenses. Stibnite smoke cloud gives you around 20-25% chance to be hit by attacks, it is amazing (30-45% evade * 30% dodge * 50% blind). Diamond cuz our crit is kind of low unless you go assassin ascendant. Wise oak for pen and res. Quicksilver for clear, but for pure dps atziris adds a big chunk of dmg. Rising sun for +2 proj is more important than ever Jewels: you want life abyss jewels with at LEAST lightning damage on attacks and lightning damag for bow attacks. The last affix ideally would be attack speed or crit multi but that’s getting quiiiite pricey since you need 9-15 jewels. Consideration should go to Pure Talent. This jewel can potentially efficiently give you +0.5 BASE crit, 8% movespeed, 1% attack leech (saving you three points to use elsewhere), and 25 all stats (saving you affixes on gear to use for resistances, accuracy, crit multi). You will want to modify your tree to take advance of this. GEMS Multi target: lightning arrow + gmp + pierce + faster attacks (if under 4 aps with buffs) + eda + mirage archer + crit strikes/crit multi/lightning penetration You can really use any clear skill - lightning arrow is simply the best, only slower than KB (though you do more damage than KB builds so that makes up for it) Mirage archer is fun and will clear packs without you even needing to stop .21 seconds to attack lol I like keeping faster attacks more for feel, though other gems may ultimately add a bit more damage. TS multi target is pretty garbage, but could consider split shot + chain, giving you a stronger support over pierce Single target: either barrage + eda + mirage archer +faster attacks (if under 4 aps with buffs) + crit strikes/crit multi/elemental focus/lightning penetration OR tornado shot + eda + gmp + pierce + mirage archer + faster attacks/crit strikes/crit multi/elemental focus/lightning penetration Tornado shot does ~11% more damage, but the TS enchant is obscenely expensive and this counts on all arrows hitting. However, barrage is actually limited to single target, while tornado shot will do big single target and also hit ancillary targets hard as well. Barrage + mirage archer results in an insanely powerful burst. Herald of thunder/ice + curse on hit + assassin's mark/warlord's mark. I suggest assassin's mark since your crit chance isn't that high, but endurance charges are pretty great and easier to color Wrath + decoy totem. Please don't play archers without decoy totems - they are seriously a life saver. blink arrow+faster attacks+ice golem. The accuracy from the ice golem is really important. Leveling guide: Level with whatever bow or silverbranch until lvl 8, then equip storm cloud. Get every jewel you can reasonably path to as an ascendant. Lvl 60 you'll probably be around blood aqueducts - grind it a bit and you'll be lvl 62 to equip chin sol. Go kill Izaro (with chin sol even eternal izaro melts) at around lvl 80 and respect for around 600-700 more life. Enjoy Useful uniques: storm cloud, silver branch, wanderlust boots, ondar's clasp gloves, gold rim helmet, asenath's circlet helmet, tabula rasa, thief's torment ring FAQ How's this different from doomfletch? Well personally the biggest difference is that it has a different leveling tree. If you've been playing PoE for a while, you'll know that every bow build from like 2.1 onwards has been built the exact same way for the passive tree. Other difference is you have significantly more defense. Doomfletch is relatively reliant on abyssus unless you find some crazy jewels - even then the damage is comparable. Furthermore DF forces you to play inquisitor which does not provide much defense, let alone the best one in the game - slayer leech. Chin sol abyss can do this because it focuses on lightning damage, where you can easily get 34% penetration from the tree + wise oak alone. Lastly doomfletch trees are a bit tight on points since you need physical damage nodes, crit nodes and weapon elemental damage nodes, resulting in less defensive passives. How does this compare to molten strike builds from EngineeringEternity? Actually this build was inspired by EternalEnvy's excellent molten strike build. His guide let to the question, "How can we maximize abyss jewel damage?", for which the damage was "chin sol + barrage/TS+point blank". Difference between this build and MS build are pretty big. MS build has great defenses with life gained on hit and fortify, whereas this one clears significantly faster and does more damage because of crit and chin sol and can opt to be ranged. However this build is not a glass cannon - it has high hp, slayer leech, dodge + high evasion + blind. It's just not designed to facetank like his build, but instead deal huge damage.
