New to PoE questions regarding PvP

I know that PoE is mainly a PvE game, but how is the PvP content in PoE? I am a competitive person and I like to do a lot of PvP.

Is the PvP community here in this game large or is it like an optional thing you can do that no one really does?

PVP is optional. You'll probably meet the entirety of the PVP community in this thread, starting with me, the President of PVP. Right now, balance for it is in a rut, so you might not have the easiest time adapting to it the way some of us did about a hundred years ago. Still, nothing to lose in trying, and you can learn more about the game from PVP since most players are content to just sit and chat.

I like pvp. Im more into lvl 28 duelling than high level duelling. It isnt a big community, but we are fanatics to the end

PvP is... a small community, unfortunately. And also mostly glacial cascade or arc miners in the top ranks from what I can see. Or crimson dance bleed builds since GGG doesn't seem to be doing much about it. I might be wrong here and it's just that complicated to fix, but a little update what bugs they're working on fixing would be awesome.
I digress. Well, pvp is small enough that you sometimes have to wait almost 15 minutes to find a match... which is pretty frustrating if you simply want to level leo.
