Help and Information - One character marked with a red "star" and not choosable - Forum

Greetings all, I came back after a long break in POE to see what has changed. Now I find that one of my two main characters is greyed out here on the board and I can't choose it / switch to it. It is marked with a red star also. What does that mean? Search function wasn't very helpful. Since the servers don't seem to have started yet, I can't tryout if the character is accessable in game. If you've been away for more than a year, it's probably a character with an expired name. Names are now freed up after a year for others to take. You should get a "renaming" prompt, though. Exit, pursued by a Plummeting Ursa. Not logging into any character in-game. Here's the original announcement: " Chris wrote: Since we launched the initial Closed Beta in 2011, roughly 50 million Path of Exile characters have been created. Many of the oldest character names belong to accounts that are no longer active. These inactive character names are generally simple common ones that we'd like to make available to our current players. When The Awakening launches on Friday, old names will be available. If you take the name of an existing character, then that user will be prompted to rename their character when they later try to log in to it. If you have logged onto any character on your account in the last year, then their names cannot be taken. Characters whose names are taken are not lost - their progress and items are still intact. They just need to pick a new name when they log in. This name expiration was designed to be as permissive as possible. Every character on an account accessed recently is safe, and that duration is set to an entire year. Hopefully the name you want will be available when The Awakening launches! Hi there, As Alysma has mentioned, character names expire after the account has been inactive for a year. To refresh this timer you would need to log into your account through one of the available game clients, logging into the website does not refresh this timer. I'm afraid we are not able to restore character names that have been claimed after they have expired. We apologise for any inconvenience. Need help with anything? I don't mind this at all, but I don't currently have POE1 installed on my gaming pc for space. I'd like to look back at my gear and such on my inactive characters but they're not selectable (bc inactive clearly). Is there anyway to make the name change on the website rather than having to install the client and log into them? If there is i can't find it.
