Need some markus math

Ok so I recently removed crit damage from my links to put in Elemental Focus. Today while fucking around I realized The Cauterizer gave me significantly more damage than dual redbeaks. Thing is, now I have a lot more elemental damage than physical damage.

I was wondering if Fire Penetration would make me do more damage than Elemental Focus. The image has my stats with and without the gem.

The crit chance is irrelevant since I'm assassin and it's over 50% so lets just assume it's always a crit.

What would my average damage be with Ele Focus vs Fire Pen?

You are just being lazy. Even if you can't calculate it on your own, you just have to enter it in my calculator and you can check the difference.

your fire damage gets 50% more, so

ele focus gives almost same dps as pen gem if you have 41 pen(41+25 = 66 ele damage out of 100 applies to opponent)(pen gem is slightly better in this case)

ele focus: 66 x 1.5: 99~100~
if you have less pen than 41, pen gem is way better. if you have more, ele focus slowly starts giving better damage.
if you have more pen than 41-42 pen gem gets slightly weaker compared to ele focus as you get close to 100% ele pen damage.

On a crit, I'm getting;

20985 - 25618 with ele focus, vs 75% all res (including chaos).

21749 - 26561 with a level 22 fire pen (for a total of 49%), vs 75% all res (including chaos).



I just wasn't sure if I was doing this right.

Marginal difference now that I have a lot more ele damage, but those numbers seem a little high compared to what goes on in game. I suppose most people have at least some form of armor through a piece of gear or a flask. CI means no chaos damage, but then that's still at least 15k+ damage per hit.

Am I overshooting this because of something I overlooked?

Rup, that's correct in case he would have only one type of ele and one type of pen, but his problem was mainly that only less than half of his damage is fire, so it doesn't apply to his case.

yeah. it's just a small insight for harley. for more accurate calculations/understanding as you said using your calculator would be way better.

Ele focus crit: 20971 - 25618
Fire pen crit: 21749 - 26561

The small difference between our results might come from a typo.

So both can work, but ele focus won't ignite, and against fire pen ppl can use talismans, and AA has a bit bigger effect.
